ACE TEFL will be taking part in the Teacher Clinic Days hosted by our friends and colleagues at ELT News. The Teacher Clinic Days are actually two free online teacher development weekends on February 20-21 and 27-28. You can check out the timetable here.
Our sessions are on the last day, Sunday 28th February, and they both have to do with preparing learners for exams:
Speaking and showing off: preparing learners for speaking tests (10:00 am)
Preparing for the speaking subtest of a public exam is more complicated than simply improving your spoken performance: examiners typically reward accuracy and expect that students demonstrate the full range of linguistic resources they have at their disposal. In this presentation, George will review the criteria used in exams to assess learner performance and demonstrate techniques and activities that can help learners improve their speaking as well as show off their communication skills in an exam context.
Writing for nobody to read? Making exam-prep writing engaging (11.20 am)
Can writing be fun? Can it be fun even if it’s part of an exam prep course? Can it be fun and at the same time offer effective preparation for the exam the students wish to sit? In this webinar, Alexander will be exploring different types of exam-prep writing tasks and demonstrating ways of adapting coursebook writing activities to make them more enjoyable for the learners while also providing invaluable insight into the requirements of the exam they have opted for.
